Gaza Province is dominated by strings of inland lakes and nowhere are they more beautiful than at Bilene. This peaceful town, known as San Martino in the days of Portuguese Mocambique, is situated on a hill overlooking the sprawling waters of the Uembje Lagoon. It?s a massive stretch of water which is 8 km wide and 27 km long, plunging up to depths of 50 meters, but so shallow near the shores that it?s perfect for children.With lush vegetation and just a boat ride away, are the powerful breakers of the Indian Ocean. Large numbers of flamingos and other water birds flock here in summer to pluck the spoils from the shallow fringes of the saline water. For the rest of the year, Bilene is all about sailing, diving, fishing, water ski, swimming and snorkelingSea View ChaletsThe chalets are built of brick.  There are 2 bedrooms with 2 single beds per room and 1 bathroom with a shower, toilet and basin as well as hot and cold running water.  The chalets sleep 4 people.  One of the rooms has an airconditioner and the second room has a wall fan. There is a 220 Volt 2 pin plug point, lights, veranda, bed linen, fridge, table with chairs and braai area.  Soap and toilet paper is provided, however guests must bring their own towels.  The chalets are serviced daily.CampingThere are 37 campsites.  Each campsite has its own power point.  There are also ablution blocks with hot and cold running water.  Rate per campsite is R80 for the campsite and R60 per person per night.  1 May to 1 September is low season and you then dont pay the R80 per campsite, only the R60 per person per night.AttractionsPalmeiras has its own Dive Centre.  It is particularly popular with water sports enthusiasts, for example jet-ski?s, water-skiing and parasailing, and more serene non-motorised sports such as paddle-ski?s, and windsurfing.On request the resort runs ferry trips across the lagoon to the sea.
