It's a half hour sand road drive by 4 X 4 from the SA/Mozambique border to the beach house. The house is positioned between a coastal forest and the ocean on Kangela Estate. Secluded, on a sand dune. There are no neighbours visible, offering a tranquil setting. Part of the allure of being by the sea, is the calming colours of the design and decor, reflecting the natural environment.

The downstairs open plan, double volume living area, has concrete floors going out to a wooden deck around the pool. This leads directly down to the beach.

The reception area has a guest bathroom, reception, dining area and lounge. It has a “shabby chic” beach look, with a local input of reeded blinds, original paintings and textures of rattan and natural fabrics.

There is one double bedroom downstairs, ensuite and can be a kingsize or singles, it has a garden view.

Upstairs, are the four bedrooms all ensuite. The house sleeps ten comfortably, with capacity for twelve with two daybeds in the two master suites.

Each bedroom is very comfortably furnished with mozzie nets, fans, percale cotton sheets, kingsize feather pillows, cotton bed throws, bath and pool towels. The front suites have kingsize beds and the other rooms can be singles or kingsize. The two front rooms have magnificent sea views, the other two partial sea views.

The house comes with television with full DStv(satellite), a DVD player and an iPod docking station.

There is a well-equipped kitchen, with separate stainless steel fridge and freezer, gas hob, electric oven and in the scullery the washing machine and tumble drier.

It is serviced daily by our two staff, Thembi and Sergio. Duties include cleaning, washing dishes, washing and ironing, laying table, putting out pool loungers, umbrellas, washing the cars, attending to the pool etc. They are happy to prepare for meals with your instruction but don’t do the cooking. We can organise a cook if you desire. Their hours are 07h30 to 17h00, with an hour for lunch. The compulsory staff fees are R100 per staff member, per day, including day of arrival and departure day - to be paid in cash on departure date.

The borehole water is safe for consumption. We also have a purifier in the scullery. Should you prefer bottled water, it is available in the village.

For cell phones, international roaming is required, or a local Mozambique sim card can be purchased. If you wish to have 3G, bring your own wifi router that connects to the Mozambique Vodacom (Buy a local sim card and convert voice time to data).

A safety deposit box is located in one of the master suites.

Outside there is a boma with a central fire and chairs around. There is a wood and gas braai off the kitchen area. Near the pool is the gazebo, with lovely northerly views over the beach, great for cocktails and “shooting the breeze !”

Ponta Malongane is considered a low-risk malaria area, with a small population making it less favourable to mosquito transmission. We have never taken malaria tablets on any of our visits in the past twelve years. There is a clinic in Ponta Douro and a hospital in Manguzi, the last town on the SA side (approx forty-five mins from the house)

Quad bikes, jet skis and boats are parked at the entrance of the estate and can be launched from the Ponta Malongane Dive Centre (PMDC) All diving is booked and launched at the PMDC, which is next door the estate. Dive briefing takes place at 17h00 each evening and reservations are then made for the next day. Snorkelling trips can also be organised at the same venue.

Surf fishing is good from the beach, the most likely catches are kingfish, stumpnose, pompano and shad.

Deep sea fishing charters are available. Horse riding is available at Ponta Mamoli, a half hour north of the house. Birding is a lovely sunset activity at the lake just outside the estate.

Turtles lay their eggs between Nov and February which you can witness if you take a stroll on the beach in the evenings after dark. The hatchlings make their way to the ocean from Jan to March. Humpback and Southern Right Whale sightings are prolific from July to Nov. Pods of dolphins can be seen all year round. Lastly, the Elephant Game Park is 20 km northwest of the beach house.

There are a few restaurants in Ponta Malongane. They have a local Portuguese flavour, are fairly rustic with beautiful views over Sugi Lake. They are five mins from our house and very walkable.

Ponta D’Ouro has a bank, bottle store, pharmacy, surf shops, fishing tackle shop, deli, hardware store, petrol station, internet cafe, supermarket, (limited) craft and curio market and a colourful food market where you can buy fruit and veg are grown locally, alcohol, cigarettes, airtime, prawns, cashews, bread and the like. Quad bikes, surfboards and kite surfing equipment can be hired, and lessons are available in Ponta D’ouro.

Ice can be bought at this market or from the shebeens closer to home in Malongane village.
