Prison Island
What is now a tiny, beautiful tropical island off the coast of Zanzibar was once not a pleasant place to be at all. At first, Changuu Island (known more commonly as Prison Island) was a place where slaves were detained and held until they were transported to places in the Middle East or Europe. Later, the island was used as a quarantine station and today the island is a nature reserve. The island is home to giant land tortoises commonly known as Zanzibar’s Giant Aldabran Tortoises, some of which are over a hundred years old!

Jozani Forest
Visit Jozani Forest- the only natural forest in Zanzibar Island. The forest is located in the central east region of Zanzibar, about 25 km from Jambiani. It is over 2,512 hectares and is home to a large variety of plants, threes and animals.  To give you an idea there are 100 different tree species!

Zanzibar Butterfly Centre
In Zanzibar’s central east region, just one km from the Jozani Forest entrance you find Zanzibar Butterfly Centre. The centre is one of the largest butterfly enclosures in East Africa.

Snorkeling Mnemba
Mnemba Island lies about 3 km north-east of Zanzibar. There is about 95 km from Jambiani to the beach where the boat will take you out. Mnemba Island is surrounded by at vast area of coral reef and is listed as a marine reserve. It is the most popular snorkelling spot in Zanzibar. The depth of the water is the same in all the reef area -  2-4 m. The reef is protected and fishing is forbidden, so the density of fish here is higher than in many other places in Zanzibar.
