Situated in the Province of Inhambane, half way between Vilanculos and Inhambane, Pomene is a remote piece of paradise with kilometres of untouched beaches and crystal clear waters.  Pomene View Lodge is located on a high ridge overlooking a unique and pristine mangrove system with panoramic views of the estuary and the Indian Ocean beyond, just a ten minute drive down to the beach.This family owned and operated lodge along the coastal region of Mozambique offers a relaxed, friendly and personal atmosphere with wonderful brick and thatch self-catering chalets, fully equipped and serviced, ideal for groups or families travelling together.   After a busy day, sit back and relax with a sun downer on the deck, which has a spectacular view of the estuary. Then sit back and share the day's adventures with the other guests in the bar.  There is also our restaurant, or our communal braai area, to enjoy with new friends.Self Catering Chalets:Pomene View Lodge offers self catering, fully equipped and serviced chalets:             ?seven 5-sleeper chalets consisting of one double bed bedroom and three single open plans, ?one 5-sleeper consisting of two separate bedrooms (one double, one twin) and one single open plan and ?one 6-sleeper which has two separate bedrooms (one double, one twin) and two single open plan beds.Each chalet is fully equipped with cutlery, crockery, utensils, bedding, towels (on request) and mosquito nets while each kitchenette has a   fridge/deep freeze and two-plate gas stove (gas provided). The private bathrooms have hot and cold showers, toilet and basin. Each chalet has its own braai facilities. The chalets are serviced daily.  The windows are made with gauze in order to provide a cool breeze in the hot summer months and the chalets are surrounded by beautiful Msasa trees providing shade for outdoor barbecuesPlease note that the generator runs between 8:00 am and 12:00 am, and 5 pm and 10 pm.HISTORY:Pomene was initially discovered when a ship carrying a valuable cargo of sugar was shipwrecked here and subsequently a road was built to recover the cargo. Remnants of the wreck can still be seen on the south beach. There is the must-see ruin of 'The Old Pomene Hotel' on the point of the bay, which only operated for 6 years and was abandoned in 1974 during the civil war in Mozambique. It has never been rebuilt. WHAT MAKES THE PLACE SPECIAL:  Being a family run lodge, the service at Pomene View Lodge is very personal and hands-on.  The setting is completely unique offering tranquillity Pomene is one of the few places in Mozambique where you can see Whale Sharks, manta rays and a number of turtle species right off the point of the Old Hotel.  It is the closest point at which the Mozambique channel comes to the shore, therefore excellent for fishing..  Pomene is still an untouched piece of paradise ? the perfect holiday destination for family and friends to enjoy.   THINGS TO DO AND SEE :Pomene is renowned for it's outstanding fishing, deep sea, rock & surf and estuarine.
